Biba Beauty Shoot with Fred Farrugia

Karine and I had the pleasure of hosting BIBA magazine who came to ByCalliste to do a shoot with Fabrice Laroche: a Spring / Summer 2017 Make up trends special.

Realized together with Catherine Baudet, BIBA’s Beauty Editor in Chief, this collab’ gave carte blanche to four talents from the Calliste agencyMarie DuhartFred FarrugiaLili Choi and Gregoris. Over a one month period, these high flying artists are going to show you how to appropriate the season’s strongest trends.

This week, it’s the talented Fred Farrugia who talks about his creations inspired by black, or “neo-noir”. A strong color, which he uses to create two sexy and evolving looks.

The hair is done beautifully by Tomoko Ohama and Christina Conrad does the manicure.

A huge thank you to Catherine Baudet for her write up in BIBA

Neo-noir by Fred Farrugia

“Ultra creative, a fan of materials and color, the former artistic director of Lancôme make up and the founder of his eponymous cult brand, Fred Farrugia has an extremely sharp eye for trends. And because the adorable Fred loves to make looks that are within reach for women, he has created two sexy and evolving looks that are highly wearable.”

Fred’s realization:

To create his first make up look, he has mixed three strong trends: the structured brow + the “used” smoky black eye + glowy skin. “I worked the brows with a mascara two tones lighter than the natural eyebrow color of model Victoria (Elite agency) in order to create a past effect. The purpose? To soften the look while structuring it. I’m skipping the mascara in order to emphasize the black glow around the eyes. To do this, I create a black line along the eyelid and work this with a brush using a gloss to create this “wrecked smoky eye” effect. At the corner of the eye, under the arch and on the curves of the face, I apply an illuminating powder to give the skin a delicate freshness which contrasts with the eyes. For the lips, just a lip balm will suffice.”

In version 2, Fred has developed the first make up look, pushing it towards a more sophisticated interpretation, which is perfect for the evening. Using the same base, he re-works the eyes, putting more black eye pencil on the inner edge of the eyelid (the idea is never to look too made up…). For the lips, he applies a matte velvet red lip color that’s super sexy, yet he keeps the freshness of the complexion.
