The 50s “pin-up” style, embodied so fabulously by the talented and very sexy Dita von Teese has served as inspiration for numerous women all around the planet.
She’s known for her self-assured, exaggerated femininity, and her very formulaic make up. Fifties beauty is all about femininity, sensuality… and sexiness!
Elsa has a great passion for the fifties aesthetic and is a huge admirer of Dita von Teese. She is inspired by Dita von Teese in her clothing, her beauty routine and her job as a stylist.
Today it’s Lili Choi who is in control at the ByCalliste studio in order to transform Elsa into Dita.
She begins with flawless foundation that’s both pale and luminous: Lili is truly genius with make up! A devilishly red lip is followed by her fabulous eye make up with Dita’s characteristic black eyeliner giving her an amazingly determined and intense gaze.
Elsa does her hair herself and completes her transformation, hatching into a butterfly as if Dita herself had appeared before our bewildered eyes…
Bravo to both of you, Lili and Elsa; thanks for this wonderful beauty lesson, an inspired and inspiring transformation!
First of all, Lili applies an illuminating base to Elsa’s whole face and neck. This is Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Base n ° 1, which will give a brightness and glow to her complexion. Then, using her fingers she applies a matte foundation from Nars: Velvet Matt Skin.
A little pro trick: Lili rubs her hands together and then places them on Elsa's face, using their heat to melt the texture of the foundation onto her skin. This guarantees a natural result!
She then uses an under-eye corrective concealer, Accord Parfait Crayon Correcteur from L'Oréal Paris, applying it with her finger or directly with the tip, not forgetting then to perfect and blend the texture by gently blotting with her fingertips.
Next, Lili fixes Elsa's complexion with a little Powder Prep + Prime from Mac, using a brush, on the T zone. To avoid a surplus of powder on her face, she removes the excess powder, with circular movements of her brush in the lid of the case.
For the eyebrows, Lili uses a matte black powder from Mac, in Carbon, and goes over their natural line with the brush to give them more intensity.
Before starting the eye makeup, Lili curls Elsa's eyelashes with metal eyelash curlers, starting with the upper lashes and proceeding in steps: the eyelashes at the outer corner of the eye, then the center of the eye, and finally in the inner corner. Lili's secret: don’t forget the lower lashes – use the eyelash curler upside down!
Lili then applies a powder, a slightly iridescent beige, from the palette 4 Shades of Chanel, using a brush, on Elsa’s entire upper eyelid and on the eyesocket arch in order to bring some luminosity to her eyes. Then, a little powder, slightly darker, from the same palette, in the hollow of her eye socket to give the eye a little structure.
Lili uses L'Oréal's Super Liner Gel Intenza, applying it with a brush. Her two-step technique is to draw a line from the outer corner of the upper eyelid following the line of the eyelashes, then draw a second line from the inner corner of the eye to the first line. She thickens and intensifies this line, for a more fifties look, starting again from the outer corner of the eye.
She then applies the Audacious black mascara from Nars, whose brush that makes it easy to apply mascara from the root of the eyelashes.
Lili chose a blush pink powder from Bobbi Brown, called Pretty Pink, which she places with a blusher brush in the center of Elsa’s cheeks and up towards her temples. A little tip: smile, to locate the center of the cheeks more easily.
For the "Dita" lip, Lili draws a vertical line which acts as a marker in the center of Elsa’s lips before tracing the "V" of her cupid’s bow on her upper lip, using a Lip Pencil from Mac, Dita’s favorite lip pencil. She then starts from the outer corner of the upper lip, drawing a new line to join up with the bow.
For the lower lip, she marks a line from the outer corner of the lip to the marker in the center of the lip. She then fills in the entire lip with a pencil, giving a very matte appearance. Be careful not to over-moisturise your lips beforehand as this could prevent the color from sticking.
To give this beautiful color a little more vivacity and brilliance, she applies a little red lipstick over the top: Velvet Passion Matt lipstick from Kiko, which she applies directly with the lipstick.
In order to completely become "Dita", the last little glamorous touch is a set of false eyelashes! Lili has chosen Dolly Wink false eyelashes from Koji. To stick them on, she uses her nail, like a palette, for the glue. She’s using Duo from Clear White. Then, while holding the false eyelash with tweezers, she applies the lashes to the glue. She then places the false eyelashes at the root of the upper lashes at the outer corner of the eye. Fear not, the white glue becomes transparent when dry, a few minutes is all it takes!
For Elsa's eyelashes and the false eyelashes to become one, there’s a little trick: apply a new layer of mascara over both, while placing your thumb behind the curve of the eyelashes.
The very last touch: the "Dita" beauty spot!
It’s very easy with the Super Liner Black'N Sculpt from L'Oréal Paris, which has a round nozzle that makes it easy to create a small dot. One touch is enough, she places the beauty spot above Elsa’s cheekbone, under her left eye.
Now you try!
